Yes!! There is a Santa Claus!!!

Yes!! There is a Santa Claus!!!

I'm not going to reference a particular Disney movie today. I'm just sharing what is on my heart at this season.

Christmas is a time of year when people are talking about believing. “Do you believe in Santa?” is an oft repeated phrase at this time. Kids are asked by other kids and questioning adults. Some kids ask so they can “spoil the fun” of a younger child. Adults sometimes are shocked to find a 9-10 year old that still believes.

Many adults think it is unwise for children to believe in Santa. Non-Christian and Christian adults often think that it leads to a pie in the sky unreal view of the world. “Better to know the truth early that the world will do you no favors.” Some Christian parents also believe it is wrong to teach a child to believe in Santa. “Santa is a symbol of greed and commercialism! Santa detracts from the true story of Christmas and the celebration of Christ’s birth.”

While I do believe children need to realize that good things come by hard work and you will never get everything you ask for or want, I still believe the belief that there is kindness and generosity in the world outweighs the negative impact if handled correctly. Santa is a symbol and life lesson of kindness and generosity.

The commercial persona of Santa can detract from reason we should celebrate Christmas, Christ’s birth – God’s gift of LOVE to us. I still believe the person of St. Nick (Santa Claus) is a powerful tool to show the strength of God’s love and how we can show God’s love to others.

Around 300 AD there was a young man by the name of Nicolaus. Nicolaus was the only child of a rich merchant. He lived in Myra, modern Turkey. When Nicolaus was a young man his parents died. He spent many hours at his local church. The priest of the church knew there was something special about Nicolaus and prayed. After a time the priest felt lead of God to ask Nicolaus to become a priest. Nicolaus studied and became a priest.

Years went by, Nicolaus knew he could not keep his money because priests swore a vow of poverty. Nicolaus decided he would use his money to help people he found in need. There was a family in the parish that had 3 young girls. The eldest girl was about to become of age to marry. Back then if a young lady did not have a dowry to give she did not have a good chance of getting married. If she did not marry she was left to be a prostitute, a beggar or a house maid. None of these lives were easy or one that is desired.

When the eldest girl of the family came of age she found a bag of gold coins in her room near her bed! Nicolaus, not wanting it to be known he gave the gift had tossed the bag of coins in through a window during the night. The father wondered who the benefactor was and never suspected their local priest!

The second daughter reached the age to get married shortly after the first. This time the father was watching to see if the unknown “savior” would come again to help this daughter as well. Nicolaus saw him waiting and quietly went around and climbed up on the roof top and dropped the bag of coins down the chimney where they landed in a pair of socks hanging next to the fire drying! The socks belonged to the second daughter! She was saved as well!

When the third daughter came of age the father was determined to find out who was blessing his family so he could thank them. He set traps and waited into the night. He was rewarded when he caught Nicolaus trying to leave his final gift. Nicolaus swore father to secrecy, not wanting praise but to bless this poor family. The father relented and agreed not telling a soul about where the gifts came from.

Years later Nicolaus became the Bishop of Myra. This fact is documented in the logs of the Council of Nicea (around 325 AD). Bishop Nicolaus of Myra was there defending the faith and arguing the deity of Christ! At one point other Bishops did not believe in the deity of Christ and for other personal reasons wished to deny it. Nicolaus went to physical blows to defend the faith and deity of Christ! He won!

Every year he was a priest, at Christmas time Nicolaus would open the doors to his church and his funds. He would provide gifts for the poor who came to the church. He did this in the name of Jesus Christ so the poor would know Christ loves them. When Nicolaus died the father of the girls remembered his kind gifts. He had truly never forgotten them. The father started leaving small gifts for others less fortunate then himself. He would leave them with a note saying they were from Saint Nicolaus.

Over the years the legend grew and spread. People in neighboring countries heard the story of Saint Nicolaus the gift giver, and in turn they left gifts in his name. As legend spread the name changed to the Dutch, Sinterklaas and when he came to the United States his name changed again to Santa Claus.

There is much more to Saint Nicolaus’ story but these are the key points. This counters both arguments about Santa Claus being encouraged and believed in. For those that say there is no kindness in the world and get tough young I say look at the kindness of a real man, Nicolaus. He cared for others and took care of the poor and those in need and inspired others to do the same.

For those that say he is not a good example for Christian children I say you are wrong! Nicolaus defended the faith, he protected those in need (the young girls) and took care of the poor. Saint Nicolaus is a good example for all of us to strive to follow. He shows us how to show God’s love to others by actions.

Here are some verses to think about:

Matthew 5:6
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Colossians 3:17
Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Galatians 6:9
Let us not grow weary of doing  good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

A Very Goofy Christmas - Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas

A Very Goofy Christmas
Part of
Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas is a collection of three stories. There is Donald Duck: Stuck On Christmas, A Very Goofy Christmas and Mickey & Minnie’s Gift of the Magi.

A Very Goofy Christmas follows Goofy and Max as they get ready for Christmas Day. Goofy in his usual caring, giving self and tries to show Max the true reason for Christmas. Goofy and Max help each other remember to have faith.

Goofy and Max have sent off their letters to Santa. They are working hard at getting the house decorated and ready for Santa’s annual visit. Their neighbor, Pete makes things difficult for them but Goofy perseveres.

After getting ready Goofy and Max go to visit a neighbor family. On the way Max asks Goofy why they are taking the meal and doing all of this when Santa is coming that night and can bring it all. Goofy says, “Well, Santa is busy right now and we are just helping him out.”

This family is having a hard time. Goofy brings the meal and plays Santa for the kids. Max finds out his dad is playing Santa and stops believing in Santa. Goofy works hard at trying to make Max believe and even writes, “Don’t forget Max” in the snow so Santa will see and know to stop.

After many mishaps, finally Goofy stops believing as well. Max can’t stand to see his usually happy go lucky father so sad so he tries to cheer up his dad and plays Santa himself and is caught. Finally Santa does arrive and all is well.

There are several points to walk away with from this short Christmas tale. Believe even when there is not actually proof. Stay positive even when all around it is falling apart or people mess you up. Care for those around you, especially those in need.

It is Caring for Others I want to talk about right now. There are many verses where Christians are called to care for others. Here are a few.

Proverbs 21:12
If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered” (NIV)

1 Corinthians 16:14
Do everything in love. (NIV)

Deuteronomy 15:7-11
If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of your gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs. Beware lest there be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, “The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,: and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing, and he cry out to the Lord against you, and it become a sin among you. You shall surely give to him, your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand. For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, “You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.” (NKJV)

What I want to encourage you is to reach out and care for others. God says when we reach out and give without holding back God will bless you. Goofy was blessed with friendship and support. He was blessed with the love of his son. Santa does come and give them exactly what they wanted. Our caring for others will be blessed with friendship and loving family just like Goofy. How much more will God bless us for our obedience?

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices - Magi's Camel Driver

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

I thought I'd share another story from my book. It is available as an ebook and is available at many fine ebook stores online. At this time it is only available as an ebook. I'm looking for ways to get it hard copy published in the next year IF there are enough interest in it.

Here is the story of The Magi's Camel Driver.

THE MAGI’S CAMEL DRIVER

I am use to going out at night with my master. He goes out almost every night to look at the stars. About two years ago he and his friends were out watching the stars and they got all excited. I overheard them talking. They kept saying things about a strange new star appearing. Every night they watched that star. During the days they would spend all their time talking about what it meant.
My master came to me one day and said I needed to pack for a long trip. He did not know how long we would be gone or how far we would be traveling! It might be years before we get home! My master thought that the star meant that the promised King of the Jews had been born. He said we would follow the Star to the King. He game me coin to get some new camels, packs and food for both man and beast. We would leave with his friends as soon as all was ready.
I thought he was crazy! Going off without even knowing where we are going or how long we will be gone? Following a STAR of all things! Hoping to find a child king? How could this be anything but crazy! All said and done thought he is my master and I must go. So off I went and I got all the supplies we needed for the trip. We left a few days later. I did not understand the importance of the trip. We traveled only at night so we could follow the star. During the day we rested the best we could. Sometimes we stayed at an inn and you could hear people talking and kids playing. Sleep was a rare thing on this trip.
We went to see Hared, the king of Judea. His people told my master and his friends that it was written that the King of the Jews would be born in Bethlehem. From what I’ve heard from Hared’s stable hands he is not a person to be trusted. We did not have any other ideas so we had to trust him. We did not have any other ideas so we had to trust him. Off we went to Bethlehem. There we found the star over a small house.
What a house, if it could even be called that. So small and poor looking! It looked like any other house in the area. This could not be the city or home of a king. There was a workshop out back. It was clean and inviting. The people who lived there were so unusual. The man, Joseph, is a carpenter. You could see this by looking into his shop. The wife, Mary was so nice and pretty too. She did her best to make us feel at home. somehow once you meet the people you feel like the best palace you had ever seen would not compare to this little humble home. I think it really had to do with the child.
He was about two years old. He was cute and lively. You could see in a glance that He kept his mother busy. Beyond the normal two year old mischievousness was a maturity and genteelness that I had never seen in a little child. He sat very solemn and still when the magi gave their gifts to Him. It was as if He knew what was going on and understood what they were saying.
He got out of the house while His parents were talking to the magi. Before I could stop Him He ran right up to the biggest camel we had in our train! Camels are not known for being nice but his old guy is just plain mean. Ol grump, as we called him, did the strangest thing I’d ever seen. He got down on his knees and bowed to Jesus! Jesus reached out and stroked his graying muzzle so genteelly. Ol Grump then laid down so Jesus could climb all over him! Jesus walked over to me and laid His little hand on me. In His gentle little touch I found a strength and calmness. He looked into my eyes and I felt that He could see into my very soul. But I was not afraid. I would like to stay wand watch this little one grow up. It would be interesting to see what happens to Him I am glad I got to come with my master to see Jesus and I look forward to getting home to tell my family and friends there about Him.

Seeing is Not Believing - Believing is Seeing

The Santa Clause
Seeing is Not Believing – Believing  is Seeing

If you have read my Pixie Pranks blog post for today you have read the first part of this post. I’m posting on both my Pixie Pranks about The Santa Clause today and the first part is for those who have never seen the movie.

The Santa Clause is a story about a broken family being restored. It is about a man finding out who he really is inside and changing to fit.

At the beginning Scott Calvin, divorced father of one is a self-centered jerk who does not care what lies he tells or who he hearts as long has he is happy. That includes his young son, Charlie and ex-wife, Laura.

It’s Christmas Eve and Laura’s new husband, Neal Miller has told Charlie that Santa is not real. Charlie is trying to come to grips with the new “reality” and in truth does not want to stay with his father for Christmas.

After time spent ignoring each other while dinner burns and eating out it is story time and time for sleep. Scott reads “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to Charlie. Not long after Charlie hears a “Clatter” on the roof and wakes dad to go check on it. Charlie is sure Santa is on the roof.

Scott finds ”Santa Claus” on the roof! He calls out to the man on the roof asking what he is doing there. Santa is startled and falls off the roof, “dies” and disappears, leaving behind his Santa Suit. Charlie comes out of the house to see what is going on and accuses his dad of killing Santa! Then he sees a ladder and climes up onto the roof. There he finds Santa’s sleigh and reindeer.

Before Santa disappeared Scott checked for ID and found a card that says, “If something should happen to me, put on my suit. The reindeer will know what to do.” Once Scott sees the sleigh he is confused and climes up the ladder to get Charlie out of the sleigh. Charlie refuses to get out and wants his dad to put on the suit. This starts a night of going house to house with the reindeer directing where they go. Fireplace or heater vent pipe Scott, in the Santa Suit goes down.

In the morning Scott, while still in the sleigh thinks it is all a dream and tells the reindeer to take him “home”. Instead of his condo they take him to the North Pole where he meets the elves for the first time. He can not believe his eyes! He denies what is happening!

Bernard, the head elf tells Scott that he is the new Santa and that by putting on the suit and getting into the sleigh he agreed to the Santa Clause. Not Claus but Clause as in the last line of a legal contract! This agreement makes him the new Santa until either by accident or choice he no longer has the suit. Scott still things he is dreaming or crazy. Scott is also told by Judy that “Seeing is not beliving, beliving is seeing.” Scott is told to rest in Santa’s bed that he has 11 months to get his affairs in order before he is officially on duty as Santa.

Scott wakes up in his bed Christmas morning in the PJs that Judy, the elf gave him! He is confused because he still considers his time at the North Pole just a dream. Charlie starts talking about the time at the North Pole and Scott is just more confused and stressed. When Laura and Neal come to pick up Charlie they are concerned by Charlie’s re-found belief in Santa. They are even more concerned by the fact Charlie is totally sure his dad is the New Santa and he spent Christmas Eve helping deliver presents and seeing the North Pole!

The story picks up a few months later, Scott has been called to the Miller’s house to discuss Charlie’s behavior. He is singing Christmas Carols in the summer and pretending to be practicing driving Santa’s sleigh! Scott sees no big concern about Charlie believing in Santa and blows it off. Scott still does not believe that what happened was real and tells Charlie it was all just a nice dream.

A few months more go on and it is fall. Charlie has both his dad and Neal come to speak at Career Day at school. Charlie picks his dad to speak first. He tells everybody in his class that his dad is Santa Claus. He after telling the class about their adventure Christmas Eve Charlie shows a snow globe to the class and tells them it was given to him by the head elf, Bernard. Now Scott has to defend his son’s belief or right to believe in Santa to the principal as well as Laura and Neal.

Soon Scott’s physical appearance starts to change. His hair turns from dark brown to gray and he grows a beard he can’t get rid of. He gains weight but his health is unaffected. Strange kids just walk up to him and call him Santa and give him their wish list. Scott still does not believe he is Santa. They even line up to talk to him.

Laura and Neal Miller, having great concerns about Charlie’s mental health go to court and take full custody of Charlie and get an order keeping Scott from seeing him until after Christmas when the judge can make a final decision.

On Thanksgiving Day Scott shows up at the Miller’s house unannounced and unwelcomed. He tries once again to convince Charlie he is not Santa and to let it all go. He says he would rather be able to be with his son that to be Santa. Charlie tells him that he (Charlie) can’t be that selfish and he is worried about all the other children in the world.

While they are talking Laura and Neal step aside to have a conversation and Bernard the elf shows up convincing Scott once and for all that last Christmas Eve was real! Charlie asks if he can go with his dad. Scott starts to say he should stay with his mom but Bernard sees no reason he can’t go. When Laura and Neal come back into the room Scott and Charlie are gone! For the next month there is a search for Charlie but it is to no avail. Once during this time Charlie calls his mother and lets her know he is safe and at the North Pole. Of course nobody believes it.

Christmas Eve, while delivering toys with Charlie Scott/Santa stops at the Miller home to drop off gifts that Charlie made for them. While there he is caught by the police and locked up! Charlie and a special force of Elves free Santa. Scott and Charlie go back to the Miller home to finish leaving the gifts for them. Charlie comes in to see his mom and Scott says he should stay with her. They make an agreement that Charlie can see Scott on Christmas Eve and he would stay with the Miller’s most of the other time. Scott can come and visit Charlie whenever he wants! Laura burns the custody papers.

The police show up, sure that Scott will show up at the Miller’s house. They show up after Laura papers. They search for Scott but he has gone up the chimney and is now flying off in his sleigh. Scott swoops down low over the police and gathered crowd wishing them all a Merry Christmas and Good Night.

Shortly after Charlie is missing his dad. He shakes the snow-globe that Bernard gave him and Santa returns to visit and after asking permission takes Charlie on a ride in the sleigh leaving Laura yelling, “Not over any oceans Scott!!”

What I love about this movie is the re-building of the family. Charlie and his dad are totally apart until Scott becomes Santa. Scott turns from being selfish to caring about others more than himself.

Now for the Biblical point from this movie.

Seeing is NOT Believing. Believing IS Seeing.

Simply put you can’t believe in God just because you “SEE”. You need to have faith to see. No matter what miracle you see with your eyes you will not believe unless your heart is open and willing to believe.

Many people see amazing things and discount them. Others see a miracle in every little thing. I believe the truth is in not what you see but what you believe. In The Santa Clause Scott is told by Bernard and Judy that children believe in Santa and the North Pole without seeing. The same is true for faith in God/Jesus Christ. You either believe or you don’t. Faith can not be forced.

Here are some verses that show the power of faith:

A woman with health issues believes that if she just touches the hem of Jesus’ robe she will be healed. By faith she reaches out and touches Jesus’ hem and was healed instantly. Matthew 9:20-22

A father of a child with a demon asks Jesus to help. Jesus said if he had faith the child would be ok. The father responded by saying he had the faith and then followed with “Lord help my unbelief.” Mark 9:23-24
This tells me even when we can’t believe God can help. Just as Charlie help Scott believe he was Santa.

I believe we need to be like children. Not childish but childlike having a heart open to believing in the amazing and impossible. Once we have that childlike heart we will have our eyes opened. Truly, Seeing is not believing, believing is truly seeing!

I pray your heart and eyes are opened this holiday season.

Merry Christmas!!!

Mickey's Christmas Carol - A Story of Redemption

Mickey’s Christmas Carol – A Story of Redemption

If you read my PixiePranks blog the first part of this post is the same review of the movie. I do that for those that don’t know the story. At the end is the Biblical application.

If you are looking for a good version Dickens’ Christmas Carol to introduce your children to the classic story, in a not too scary way Mickey’s Christmas Carol is one of two I’d highly recommend. (The other being Muppet Christmas Carol. Both are Disney. Muppet’s is a little more scary and closer to the actual story.)

Being a Dickens’ Carol fan I am rather picky about my Carol movies. On a scale of 1-10 I’d say this gets a 5 for keeping the “spirit” of the original. The idea and message of the story are clearly conveyed but it loses something in the translation. The loss has nothing to do with the fact it is animated or that classic Disney characters acting out the parts. I just feel it does not capture the spirit of the story as well as other versions. Muppet’s Christmas Carol is in my top 5 best at capturing the spirit and intent of this classic and important story. I believe Mickey’s Carol goes off track by going for the gags/laughs a little too much. The is humor in Christmas Carol just not this much.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol is loosely based on Dickens’ Christmas Carol. The general plot points are there. Scrooge, Scrooge McDuck is a penny pinching miser who is miserable. Bob Cratchit, Mickey Mouse is his poor clerk. Tiny Tim is Bob’s sickly little boy and Minnie Mouse plays Bob’s Wife. Daisy plays Scrooge’s lost love. Donald Duck is Fred, Scrooge’s nephew.

Scrooge is visited by his old partner, Jacob Marley, Goofy who warns him that he needs to change. The scene is funny and does not put the scare in you that other versions or the original story does. In many versions of Christmas Carol I consider this the 2nd scariest part. Here it is more funny than scary. He calls out to Scrooge to change.

Jiminy is the Ghost of Christmas Past, who shows Scrooge events in his past that caused hurt to himself and others.

Willie the Giant is the Ghost of Christmas Present. Christmas Present shows Scrooge the joy of loving and giving. This is when Scrooge is introduced to Tiny Tim and truly begins to open to seeing that he has missed out on relationships.

Pete (Black Pete/Pegleg Pete) is the ghost of Christmas Future. He is dark and foreboding but this part of the story is quickly gone over. I believe this is because it is so dark and scary.

In the end Scrooge finds redemption. He does not want to die living the way he has. He helps save Tiny Tim, treats Bob Cratchit better and reconnects with his nephew Fred. He goes from living a life of sorrow, pain and emptiness, living only for money to living with joy, happiness and living to reach out and connect with people.

Here is a link to what WikiPedia has to say about the movie:

Biblical application:

Christmas Carol is a story of redemption. A man full of sin, hurt, hate and pain is visited by 4 ghosts that show him he needs to make a change in his life.

The ghost of his past business partner shows him that his greed (sin), hurt, hate and pain have put chains on him that have an eternal cost. When we sin satan binds us. We don’t see the chains but they keep us from God.

Proverbs 1:24-31 says:
24 Because I have called, and you have refused; I have starched out my hand, and no man has regarded; 25 but you have not followed my counsel, and would not listen to my reproof: 26 I also will laugh at the time of your calamity; I will mock when you are afraid; 27 whey your fear comes as a storm, and your calamity comes as quick as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call upon me, but I will nto answer; they will look for me diligently, but not find me: 29 because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of God: 30 they would take none of my advice; they despised my reproof. 31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their actions, and be filled with their own ways.

Jesus, like Jacob Marley has and does come to each of us warning and reproving us. How many times have you felt/known an action is wrong yet still done it? That is Jesus/Holy Spirit talking to you. Will you listen or let your chains grow longer and heaver? This is not God hating you or picking on you. It is God saying this behavior is wrong and hurts yourself and others, time to stop now. The choice is yours just as Scrooge had the choice to listen or not.

Jesus does come to us many times just as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future came to Scrooge. The Ghost of Christmas Past is the memories of Scrooges past. It showed him where he was wronged and where he had the chances to go right and chose not to.

The Ghost of Christmas Present encourages us to remember the gift that God gave us that we remember at Christmas, Christ. Christmas Present in the original has as many elder brothers as there are years from the birth of Christ. Today that would be 2013 elder brothers. This Ghost reminds Scrooge to live in the moment and take part of what is going on in the here and now.

The Ghost of Christmas Future is the scariest in the original story and that is most likely why it was glossed over in this version. This Ghost shows Scrooge where he could end up if his life is not changed. This is a true turning point in the movie where Scrooge has to make a decision. Accept redemption and change or live as he always has.

What is redemption? Here is a dictionary definition:
1.     An act of redeeming or atoning for a fault or mistake, or the state of being redeemed.
2.    Deliverance; rescue.
3.    Theology, deliverance from sin; salvation
4.    Atonement for guilt.
5.   Repurchase, as of something sold.

All of the above definitions fit! God says He has rescued, repurchased us, redeemed us from our sinful nature. He has rescued us from the traps of the devil, who has a hold on earth.

How can we be “redeemed”? By believing on Jesus Christ and allowing Him to change our lives as the experience with the Ghosts of Christmas changed Scrooge.

God sent His Son to pay our price:

Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, having come into being out of a woman, having come under the Law, 5 that He might redeem the ones under Law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have our redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses (sins), according to the riches of His grace . . .

Col 1:19-23 For it was the good pleasure of the Father that in Him should all the fullness dwell; 20 and through Him reconcile all things unto Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things upon the earth, or things in the heavens. 21 And you, being in time past alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works, 22 yet now has He reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and without blemish and unreproveable before him: 23 if you continue in the faith, grounded and stedfast, and not moved away from the hope of the good news that you have heard, which was preached in all creation under heaven . . .

How does accepting Christ change us? Knowing Jesus Christ on a personal level you want to change to please Him. Just as you change your behavior for those you love in your life. You might eat better, drink less exercise more all because a person you love asks it of you and you love them and want to make them happy.

As a child imitates their parents to please them we should imitate God/Jesus.

Eph 5:1-2 Be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, even as Christ also love you, and gave Himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God. . .

How we are called to live:
Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us, to intend to, deny all ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should ive soberly and righteously and godly in this present world; 13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of glory of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a people for His own possession, zealous of good works.

Simply put God wants to be in a relationship with us. He, being a righteous God can’t have sinfulness around Him. He has given us a way to clean up and change. He has repaid our debit for the wrongs we have done and put them behind. He does not care about the past after that!

Once we accept His gift we are changed. We should live a life full of hope, love and kindness. Does that mean we always will? NO!! We are human, not perfect and God knows we will fail at times and He forgives us all over again.

Here is one of the stories from my book for you to check out.

ISAAC, THE SHOPKEEPERS SON

My name is Isaac. I’m five years old, my papa owns one of the shops on Market Street. We live aboves the shop. Papa got a man to make new tables and things for his shop. Joseph – dats da guy – had a new baby. My mama took me to visit dem. My mama told me I had to be very quiet as we visited ‘em. She said they had a new baby and the new mama must be all tired. All babies need lots of sleep too.
When I walked into da stable where they were staying there was lots of people. There was da shepherds with all those sheep, Joshua, da innkeeper, and all his family and a whole lot of other strange people!
The strange people were mostly very big. Bigger than my daddy!! One of them was very small, lots smaller than me even! I’ve never seen people like them before. They all had the prettiest wings I’d ever see, even da little one! The little one was sitting on the manger softly singing to the baby. The little one called me over to look at the baby! The baby was so beautiful! He smiled at me when I tickled His chin!
I tried to show mama all the people in the stable, but she could not see ‘em. She kept telling me to be quiet and to stop being silly and making up stories.
As the boy got bigger we played together! He was real fun! He could talk to the animals and they would do what He said. Even our big nasty cat liked Him. It scratched everyone but Him! He always had a lot of those strange people around Him. I like Nahem, the littlest of His friends the best. Nahem sang the prettiest songs and told the funniest stories! Nahem would even play games with us. I miss playing with Jesus and His friends.
My mama still says that I need to stop telling make believe stories about seeing those strange people. She does not believe I have seen them around Him. But I know I saw ‘em! Nahem told me who “HE” is. Do you want to know who He is?

Meet the Robinsons - Adopted into God's Family

Meet the Robinsons – Adopted into God’s Family

Meet the Robinsons is the story of a young boy that was left on the door step of an orphanage as a baby. Lewis is about to turn 13 and feels that his chances of being adopted are gone because he will now be a teenager.

Lewis is a very intelligent, overall positive young man who finds joy in creating things. At first he attempts to attract adoptive parents by showing them how smart and creative he is. He tries to make a “gun” to spread peanut butter and jelly on bread with a hat that can toast the bread for the perfect PB&J sandwich. This backfires when the device jams and then shoots peanut butter and jelly all over the room where prospective parents are meeting him. The sticky mess covers the couple that was interested in adopting Lewis. The husband starts to turn red and then swells up! He is allergic to peanuts!!! He is rushed off to the hospital and Lewis is left thinking he is a failure.

When Lewis sees that he has had hundreds of interviews with perspective parents and he is about to turn 13 he decides to make a device that will look into the memories of the human mind. He wants to look at his memories of the night his mother dropped him off at the orphanage in hopes of being able to identify her. He becomes obsessed with finding his mother and dreams of being re-united with her and living a happy life. He gives up on being adopted.

A man with a Bowler Hat shows up at the science fair where Lewis is going to show off his new device. The Bowler Hat Guy tampers with Lewis’s Memory Scanner and makes if fail. A young boy, Wilber Robinson about the same age as Lewis shows up and tries to stop the Bowler Hat Man. He then tries to encourage Lewis to fix the Memory Scanner.

It turns out that Wilber is from the future and he lies to Lewis in an attempt to get him to go forward in time to help him repair a time machine before his father, Cornelius comes home from work. While in the future Lewis is amazed by the creations that Wilber’s farther made. Lewis feels welcomed and in fact loved by the eclectic Robinson Family. There is Wilber, Grandpa Bud, Lucille, Franny, Cousin Tallula, Uncle Art, Aunt Billie, and Lizzy, Carl, Mildred and Uncle Dimitry and Uncle Spike (no one knows who they are really related too).

Lewis is amazed when someone brings out a peanut butter & jelly sandwich maker and it fails. Wilber asks Lewis to fix it. The repair does not work and the family applauds! They call it a spectacular failure. They are happy at attempts to make things. They say how wonderful to make something and fail because you learn more that way. Lewis feels like he fits right in.

Bowler Hat Guy steps in and makes things difficult for Lewis and Wilber. The Bowler Hat, names Doris is “alive” and helps Bowler Hat Man. In the end Bowler Hat Man steals the Memory Scanner and tries to pass it off as his own device. He does this to destroy Robinson Industry, a company started by Cornelius Robinson that has made a major impact on making the world a better place. Cornelius has a motto he lives by, “Keep Moving Forward.”

Bowler Hat Guy does win . . . temporarily. It seems that Doris, the “living hat” has been guiding him but Doris has nefarious plans of her own. It seems that Doris was created by Cornelius in the future and caused damage instead of doing good. Cornelius shut down Doris, or thought he had. Doris was out for revenge and had found an easy mark in Bowler Hat Guy to trick into helping her.

In the end Bowler Hat Guy turns out to be Lewis’ old roommate from the orphanage, Michael “Goob” Yagoobian. Goob holds a grudge against Lewis for keeping him awake the night before a big baseball game. Being tired Goob missed the big catch and lost the game because he fell asleep in the outfield! Lewis had keep him awake working on his Memory Scanner all night for the science fair the same day as the game.

Lewis finds out that in reality he was adopted and grew up to be Cornelius Robinson, the great inventor! In talking to his grown up self he is told that the invention that started it all was the Memory Scanner, his first invention that really worked.

Lewis shows Goob that Doris has tricked him and they stop Doris and correct the damage. Lewis forces Wilber to ask Goob to be part of the Robinson family. But, Goob is hurt and no longer having a direction for his life (his focus was to destroy Lewis/Cornelius before this) goes off sulking. Lewis goes back to his own time and fixes the Memory Scanner and runs off to the science fair, where he has been told he will meet people that are going to be important to his life. He stops on the way to see Goob at the ballgame. He shouts at him just at the right moment waking him up so he catches the ball! This changes Goob’s life and the way he looks at himself! At the science fair he meets Bud and Mildred who will adopt him and Franny who he will one day marry!

What are the Biblical points to learn from this movie? There are several.
·        We are all adopted by God and are His children joint heirs with Christ.
·        Keep Moving Forward! Keep a positive attitude and never stop trying.
·        Don’t let hate rule your life. You will find yourself directionless and lost.
·        Satan will do what he can to stop you from following God’s direction and being happy. You must make the choice to not listen to him.

I’m going to focus on how we are adopted by God for this post and at some later time I’ll come back and cover the other points.

Lewis is desperate to be adopted. He is looking to belong and fit someplace. When we feel lost we can turn to God for acceptance and belonging. John 3:16-18 “16 For God so loved the world that He give His only Son, so that whoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through Him. 18 He that believes on Jesus is not judge: those that have not believed have been judged already, because he has not believed on the name of the only Son of God.” John 1:12-13 says, “12 But as many as receive Him, to them He gave the right to become the Children of God, even to those that believe on His Name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Just like many of us Lewis spent years looking for and trying to contrive a way to find a family, a place he felt he fit. God is there and just waiting for us to accept His offer to be part of His family. God does not mind if we make spectacular mistakes! He knows we are learning and growing. All God requires is we ask Him and accept His love. When we accept His love we will find freedom and encouragement and acceptance. We will see God wants us to try, fail and try again until we succeed.

What does it mean to be Joint Heirs with Jesus Christ? It means we are fully adopted members of the family of God with the inheritance, authority and responsibility as such. I believe it means we have the authority over Satan’s minions in the name and power of Jesus Christ. Does this mean we go looking for demons to battle? NO!!! It just means when we have to do battle we have the authority and power to win because our Daddy is there to help and empower us. Remember to read to the very end of the Bible, Satan LOSES big time! Just remind him of that when he tries to torment, trick, deceive and lead you astray. Remind him your Daddy will kick his butt and he has no authority over you!

The Royal status as a child of the King of Kings gives us a chance to see our importance to Him. No we are NOT the red-headed step children at the family reunion! We are fully adopted members of the family! It can and should give us the impetus to change and grow personally. It does not give us the right to be arrogant or self-centered. When we have someone tell us we are worthless we have the knowledge of our adoption to remind us we are not worthless! We are priceless! No matter what mess we make when we try to do something, God loves us. We deserve the best for ourselves! (Not always material things but spiritual/emotional.) We deserve to see ourselves as God does. We are the apple of His eye. In other words He cares for us so we should care about ourselves. This can help you have a reason to change bad habits such as smoking, drinking, doing drugs, over eating and just abusing your body and mind. It should also help you learn not to allow others to physically and emotionally abuse you. If God is your FATHER who has the right to abuse you?!?! Nobody!!!

So will you choose to join God’s family? All it takes is talking to God (praying) and telling Him you wish to be part of His family. Say you’re sorry for the wrongs you done. He will forgive and accept you without judgment.
