Vengeance is Mine says the Lord
(SPOILER ALERT)
Hiro is a 14 year
old genius. He is good with robots but instead of continuing on to university
he would rather spend his time in the back alleys betting on robot fights. His
brother Tadashi pulls him out of a fight just before the owner of the losing
robot tries to beat him up. Tadashi encourages Hiro to use his “big brain” for
something more than robot fights. He encourages Hiro to return to school.
Tadashi is
successful in getting Hiro to try out for school and he is accepted. But after the
acceptance the school catches fire and Tadashi runs in to save his beloved professor.
It is believed that both the professor and Tadashi died in the fire.
Hiro is morning
the loss of his brother and refusing to go to school when he finds Baymax, the
health robot that Tadashi made. Together they find that there is a supervillain
that caused the fire and stole the technology that Hiro made. Hiro adds to
Baymax’s programing and hopes to use him to catch the villain and exact vengeance.
Nobody believes
that there is a supervillain except Tadashi’s friends, GoGo, Honey Lemon,
Wasabi and Fred. They team up with Hiro and Baymax in an attempt to stop the
person from causing more damage.
They find out the
villain is not the tech mogul they think it is. Instead they find out is the
professor they thought died with Tadashi. Hiro realizes that Tadashi was
murdered by his professor. Hiro is fixated on killing the professor. He
reprograms Baymax and removes the health protocols so Baymax will kill the
professor. His friends stop him.
In the end Hiro
realizes that the professor is acting out of his own hurt and desire for
revenge. The tech mogul had accidently caused the death of the professor’s
daughter. In the end Hiro refuses to kill the professor and ends up saving his
daughter, who was not dead but lost in a kind of temporal rift.
The Biblical
lesson is simple. Don’t go out for revenge. Let God take care of it. In Big
Hero 6 the professor is upset thinking his daughter is dead. He goes out to get
vengeance on the Tech Mogul that he believes was the cause of her death. In his
misguided wrath he accidently kills Tadashi and refuses to take responsibility
for his actions. His says, “He should not have run back into the fire to try to
save me.” In the end he loses everything. He loses the respect of his students
and he loses the chance to see his daughter again once she is rescued.
The Bible verses

Romans 12:17-22
“17 Do not repay
anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.
18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it
is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord. 20 On the
contrary:
If your enemy is
hungry feed him;
If he is thirsty
give him something to drink.
In doing this, you
will heap burning coals on his head.’
21 Do not be
overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
In other words do
the right thing! Do not retaliate unless necessary for personal protection. Be
at peace with all, even those that attack you unless you must, for personal
safety respond. If you can be kind then do so! Your kindness will burn into
their brain and soul in time.

Now for a personal
note.
I’ve seen these
verses in action. I’ve not responded to outright attacks by people and I’ve let
God take care of it. God’s vengeance was worse than anything I could have ever
done. I will not go into the exact things I’ve seen happen. Just let me say people
that took what was rightfully mine lost what they stole and more without me
doing a thing.
Some of these
people, after God got to them realized the error of what they had done and how
it hurt me and others. They came back and apologized. There was forgiveness and
a chance for them to grow as a person and for reconciliation between them and
God and us.
I had a person at
a job physically and verbally attacking me. Instead of fighting back,
physically or verbally. I took steps to protect myself. I let management know
what was going on, and they did not care to stop it. I did what I could to
defuse the situation by ignoring the person and watching for warning signs of
her pending explosive nature. But, when she needed help I gave it. I helped her
both on a professional level and personal level without expectation of thanks
or personal gain. This left her confused but it also allowed me to live as
peacefully with her as I could.
