Meet the Robinsons - Keep Moving Forward

Meet the Robinsons – Keep Moving Forward

The end of a year is here. Now it is time to look back and see what has happened in the past year. Was 2013 a good year? Did you succeed at your goals? Did good things happen to make you happy like marriages, births and new friendships? Was 2013 a bad year? Did you fail at your goals? Did you suffer a loss of a loved one or have financial problems? Either way it is time to, Keep Moving Forward! Out of the past of success or failure onto new challenges and heights.

I’ll not give a description of this movie here as I’ve already done so in another post here on Pixie’s Faith. In that post I talked about being adopted into the family of God. In this I’m going to talk about another lesson to learn from the movie, “Keep Moving Forward.”
Here is a link to the past post if you wish to learn more about the movie:

I will restate one important plot point of the movie, “Keep Moving Forward”. All Lewis wants to do is look back but he finds peace and happiness once he realizes he needs to keep moving forward. Once he stops looking to the past for solutions to his hurt he finds freedom to move on and grow into the person he truly wants to be.

The catch phrase “Keep Moving Forward” comes from a quote of Walt Disney
“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.
We Keep Moving Forward, opening up new doors and doing new things,
because we’re curious . . . and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
~ Walt Disney ~

It is also a lesson taught in the Bible as well. God does not wish us to dwell in the past and let it stop us from growing and enjoying. Learn the lessons of the past but don’t stay there. Realize God has plans for us and they are for our good not our demise.

Lewis needed to forget the past hurt of being abandoned by his mother and move forward so he could accept the love of the family he finally came to have. Just like Lewis there are good things ahead if we leave the past behind.

Isaiah 45:18-19
Forget the former thinks; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up: do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Philippians 3:12-14
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has call me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Lewis felt lost, alone and like he was wondering in the wilderness. Why? Because he was focused on the past, the loss of his mother. Once he let that go he was able to move forward.

Goob is an example of what happens when you hold to tightly onto the past and do not move forward. He was so stuck in what happened when he fell asleep and missed the ball that it destroyed him and he tried to destroy others. He was so stuck he did not see that people were reaching out to him and moving on even if he did not. (Example is he said the team rejected him after the game when in fact there is a scene where a boy asks Goob to come over to play.) We miss the truth when we look through the dirty windows of our past.

God forgives and forgets our past mistakes and failures. We need to do the same. When I say forget I do not mean act like they never happened at all. Hold onto lessons learned from them but let go of the hurt and shame. If God can forgive us we need to forgive others we need to do the same. When we forgive others we are letting go of the hurt but not necessarily the lesson learned by the actions that cause the hurt. You can forgive but not fully trust someone. Trust needs to be rebuild. Use wisdom, not everybody you forgive needs to be treated as if nothing ever happened.

Remember this, God has plans for YOU and they are plans to bless you now, next year and beyond.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Sometimes those plans take us through a dark patch in life but God’s plans are always for our good. Just like Lewis had to be separated from his mother to find the family that was just right for him. Remember God is for you not against you.

Also remember the sun shines and the rain falls on the good as well as the evil person. In other words things just happen! Not everything is God playing chess with your life and moving you like a piece. Some things are natural consequences to your actions and others are just “life” happening. Either way God is still there to see you through.

I pray 2013 was a good year for you. If not I pray you see God was there for you and with you through it. I pray that 2014 is a better year for you than 2013 no matter how 2013 was.

May the God of peace be with you in 2014 and beyond.

Planes - Flying Above it All

Planes – Flying Above it All

DisneyToon Studio’s movie, “Planes” is a marvelous surprise and treat for those wishing to show their children how to treat others that treat you wrong. It is a good lesson in dealing with bullies and those that wish to trick you.

Planes takes place in or should I say above the world of Pixar’s “Cars”. The mechanical devices rule the world once again. Cars, Planes and Ships are alive and have personalities.

Dusty Crophopper is a simple cropdusting plane that has dreams of being something more, a world class racer!!!! He dreams of flying in the “Wings Around the Globe Rally.” In the evenings his friend, Chug the fueling truck helps him practice while reading the book, “Air Racing for Dummies”. Dusty has a secret, he is afraid of heights! He wants to fly low and fast instead of low and slow.

Dusty Crophopper does try out for a race and just misses qualifying for the race by a fraction of a second! Then he is notified that one of the planes that qualified cheated and used non-approved fuel, much like an athlete using steroids. This means Dusty gets to race!

In preparation for the race Dusty asks for help from a “retired” navy war plane, Skipper. Skipper does not fly anymore but will not say why. He refuses at first to help Dusty but watching how hard Dusty works and seeing Dusty’s heart he relents and shares his knowledge and stories of battles he fought in the war.

Once Dusty gets to were the race will start the other planes in the race make fun of him. Cropdusters are made for flying low and slow so how can Dusty win? No matter who laughs at him Dusty keeps trying. The winner of the past 3 races, Ripslinger is particularly rude and abusive. Rip thinks it is funny that a cropduster is flying in the race and is also bothered by the fact that Dusty is there at all. Dusty is just not one of the in crowd, one of “them”.

While on the way to his hanger Dusty sees an English flying legend, Bulldog in his hanger. Dusty praises him for a move he did in a past race and wishes him luck. Bulldog teases him by offering to tell him how he did the move. Then Bulldog says only a fool helps others that they are racing against. It is every plan for himself. Dusty also meets other planes and all but one, El Chupacabra (indoor racing champ from Mexico) makes fun of him or ignores him. Dusty and El Chupacabra become friends because nobody else wants either of them around. Nobody believes either of them have a chance to win.

Dusty returns all the negative comments with words of praise of the other racers abilities. He never returns their harsh words with rudeness or anger. He just stays true to himself and keeps on trying to do his very best.

At the end of the first leg of the race Dusty is in last place because he will not fly high enough to stay out of the bad weather. Near the end of the second leg of the race Dusty chooses to come in last to help save the life of Bulldog who has engine problems. With that he earns the respect of Bulldog. The third leg leaves Dusty still at the back of the pack.

Just before the forth leg Ishani (who Dusty likes) flirts with Dusty and shows him around India, her homeland. She shows him some railroad tracks and suggests if he follows them he will be able to fly low, saving him from his fear of heights. Her advice puts him in first place but almost costs him his life! At the end of leg four he realizes that Ishani intentionally gave him bad advice that put his life at risk! He sees that Isani has a new propeller that is only available to Ripslinger and his team. She tricked him to get the propeller. He confronts her. Instead of attacking her or making threats he tells her that he will never trust her again. Dusty’s first place position makes Rip upset. The fifth leg Dusty stays in first place making Rip even angrier and now Rip starts making plans to take out Dusty for good.

The sixth leg of the race is over the Pacific Ocean and they are depending on radio contact and GPS location devices to guide each plane safely to the next destination. Dusty is still flying low making him a perfect target for Rip’s two sidekicks who swoop down from behind and above to knock off Dusty’s radio/GPS antenna. This leaves Dusty without direction and unable to call for help. Getting low on fuel two fighter jets come upon him demanding he identify himself. Dusty tells them he is lost and low on fuel, the jets take him to their ship, the USS “Flysinhower” to refuel and get a new antenna.

Once on the Flysinhower Dusty sees it is the unit Skipper was with. He looks on a wall that honors all past flyers and realizes that all the stories that Skipper told him were lies. Skipper only flew one mission, not the many he spoke of. Dusty flies off the Flysinhower angry, confused straight into a major storm he was told was coming. He refuses to listen to the advice of the other planes and Skipper to fly high to get over the storm. He crashes into the waves and has to be rescued. He is damaged and thinks he is beyond repair because he can’t obtain all the parts he needs in time to win. He is demoralized by Skipper’s “lies”.

Dusty is dejected and hopeless. Skipper comes in and tells him the truth about why he only flew one mission. Skipper was a trainer and was taking some of his trainees on a “simple” patrol mission when they were attacked and all but Skipper destroyed. Skipper asks Dusty if he would have listened to him if he knew the truth. Skipper also tells Dusty that he has learned more from Dusty than Dusty learned from him.

Still angry and feeling hopeless Dusty has surprise visitors. El Chupacabra, Bulldog and many of the other planes Dusty befriended or treated kindly show up with a new parts. Even Ishani shows up giving him the propeller that Rip had given her for tricking him. Dusty learns he has inspired many others by his determination, willingness to try and good sportsmanship. His attitude when treated wrong and willingness to help others has earned him the respect of all but a few of the other top racers. Dusty is fixed up and approved for the seventh and final leg of the race!

During the seventh and final leg of the race Dusty is allowed to fly because it was proven his radio was tampered with by another racer. Still because he did not technically finish the sixth leg of the race he has a harsh time penalty and must leave much later than the other racers. He has no real chance of winning the race.

One by one Dusty passes the other racers. Many cheer him on, glad he is doing well. None slowdown and allow him to pass just to let him win. He earns his place in the race rightfully. Soon there is only one racing plane ahead of him, Ripslinger and his sidekicks are aware of his progress and are not happy about it. Rip tells his minions they are out of camera range where dirty tricks will be caught. Rip and his team fly around to get behind Dusty. Rip pushes Dusty, who is flying low, as usual into the ground! Just as it looks like they will make Dusty crash and get away with it, Skipper comes down from the clouds and knocks them off Dusty!

Skipper goes after Rip while Dusty gets rid of the two troublemakers. Dusty and Skipper are ahead of Rip for a few moments when Rip uses his “skyslicer” propeller to rip through Skipper’s tail. Dusty slows to check on Skipper and wants to stay with him. Skipper tells Dusty he is fine and to go win! Dusty sees that Rip is now too far ahead for him to catch up in the short distance they have left in the race. His only hope is to fly high where tailwinds will give him the extra speed he needs to win. This is what Skip had told him to do early in the training. So up Dusty goes higher than he ever has!

Dusty does swoop down from the clouds to win! Rip is shown to be the coward and bully he is. Those that worked with Rip or who just joined in on the teasing learned a lesson in humility, kindness and true friendship.

I take away three related Biblical lessons this movie. First is treat others as you want to be treated. Second is turn the other cheek. The third is Love your enemies.

Matthew 7:12
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law of the Prophets.

In other words treat others the same way you wish to be treated. Do you want people to torment and trick you? To you want people to lie and endanger your life? Of course not! Then do not do it to others! Simple and good way to look at things. Let’s take this thought just a little further. Think of what happens if you make a mistake and realize it.  Would you want forgiveness and a second chance? When you do something right or complete a hard task do you wish recognition? I do and am sure you do as well.

Matthew 5:39
I (Jesus) tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you in the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.

This is the hardest thing to do and understand. Many people think this means to be a doormat and let people walk all over you. For some it is why they will not be believe in Christ. They think Christianity is a religion of weakness.

I believe this is saying do not return anger or violence if you have another choice. Yes, we are to protect ourselves. It just means do to jump to violence or rage as the first response.

Matthew 10:16
. . . be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Snakes are hyper aware of what is going on around them. It is how they survive! They are quick to run away and can respond fast when attacked. Also snakes are associated with Satan/evilness. I take that to mean we are to be prepared to run when we can or protect ourselves and those around us when necessary.

Doves are a symbol of peace and gentleness. It was a Dove that found the olive branch that showed Noah that the flood waters had receded. When Jesus was baptized God descended “as a dove” and declared, “This is My Son with whom I’m well pleased.” I take this to mean we are to hold out the olive branch of peace when we can. We are to choose peace first.

I think this verse means be balanced in your response to people and situations. Be ready to run or fight as necessary using the wisdom God gives you but always act in ways that can hopefully end in peace and restoration of relationship.

Proverbs 25:21-22
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.

It is simple! Be nice to people even when they are mean to you, this will just make them angry and confused. God will reward you if you do!

Bulldog was arrogant and rude to Dusty at the beginning. “You want me to help you? Ya right! It’s every plane (person) for themselves!” Dusty could have been rude in return. Instead he walks away and continues to stay true to himself. He later sees Bulldog in danger, falling from the sky. Dusty falls back and guides a blinded Bulldog to a safe landing, saving his life. Dusty did not have to do that! Bulldog was confused and reminded Dusty of what he had said about every plane for himself. Dusty said, “Where I come from you never stand by and watch someone fall from the sky.” Dusty’s actions then lead to great reward later when Bulldog and others turn around and help him after his crash.

This thought leads to the next verse.
Matthew 5:43-48
You have head that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even tax collectors (the most evil and corrupt people of that time) doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

It is natural to love those you know and hate/fear your enemy and those you don’t know or understand. God calls us to love those that attack us so we may be more like Him. He does good things for everybody, good and evil people. We are to reach beyond our circle of friends and the natural tendency to stick with those like us.

We group ourselves by ethnicity, interests, professions and beliefs and reject those not in our “group”. God says move on and reach out! So the Catholics and Protestants worship differently. They both worship the same God! Baptists, Lutherans, Methodist or Charismatic what does it matter! Sit quietly in your seat the entire sermon with your hands holding your Bible or raise your hands calling out Amen when touched by the sermon! Does it really matter? NO it does not! Black, White, Yellow or Brown skin means nothing to God and should mean nothing to us.

When we talk to someone from a different ethnic, socioeconomic, or religious background we learn and grow. Our lives are enriched and made better and so is theirs! When we connect with someone that has different interests and knowledge base than we do our world is expanded by added knowledge and a different way of looking at things.

I take great encouragement from this movie. I’m reminded to treat others fairly even when they mistreat me. I’m reminded to reward kindness and when someone is loyal to me I should be loyal and extra kind to them.

Fly high above the bullies and troublemakers! Strive to be the best person you can be!

Do not assume just because a movie is made for an audience of children there is nothing in it of importance for us adults to learn as well.

Frozen - By Fear

Frozen – By Fear

Disney’s movie “Frozen” has touched a lot of hearts this holiday season. I can see why!

Frozen is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s story, “The Snow Queen”. Disney’s Frozen is the story of two sisters, princesses. Elsa, the elder sister has the power to make ice and snow. Anna, the younger sister is happy go lucky and totally normal.

At a very young age the King and Queen warn Elsa to hide her powers because they fear the reactions of the people they rule. They are afraid Elsa will be rejected as queen in the future even though she is a good child with no evil in her heart. Soon after Anna begs Elsa to play and make a snowman with her. Elsa relents and during their childish exuberance Elsa accidently freezes Anna, almost killing her! In the process of saving Anna’s life they erase her memories of Elsa’s powers.

The King and Queen in an attempt to protect Anna from further accidents separates the girls and no longer allows them to play together. They also warn Elsa to hide her powers and lock down her emotions so she does not hurt anyone ever again.

Soon after this separation the King and Queen are killed when their ship sinks at sea. The girls are left alone with palace staff to care for them. The palace is locked down and only necessary provisions and documents go in or out. The girls are never allowed out of the palace and Elsa never leaves her rooms. Anna often goes to Elsa’s door begging to be let in. She keeps asking every winter if Elsa wants to build a snowman with her. Anna never gives up loving her sister even though she does not remember or understand why her sister will not talk or play with her.

Time goes by and the palace is locked down by fear. Finally the day comes for the doors to open and young Elsa to be crowned Queen. She is finally of age to rule her country! Anna is excited to see people and have the doors open. She is most excited to see her sister and hopes things will change.

Through a series of events Anna meets a man who she falls in love with. When she tells Elsa of her new love Elsa panics! In her panic Elsa loses control of her powers and causes things to freeze. Finally she decides to run away! She is tired of hiding her true abilities and wishes to be able to just be herself. Elsa feels relieved she is free to use her powers. In the process Elsa accidently freezes the entire country locking all the ships in the fiord, stuck in the ice. The people are freezing and supplies start to go low. Panic ensues.

Anna goes after Elsa. Anna believes in Elsa’s goodness and believes if she can just talk to Elsa, Elsa will unfreeze the land. Anna has help on the way in the form of a young man that sells ice and his reindeer. I do not wish to put too many spoilers in the story so I’m going to skip much.

In the end Elsa cannot undo the damage she caused by herself. She finds she needs her sister’s love and support. Together they reverse the freeze and save the people.

As a Christian I often become frozen by fear. I am afraid to use the gifts God has given me, such as writing. I hold back and do not share or let people into my life. Do you do that? If you do you are just like Elsa and her parents refusing to learn to prefect your talents and control them as God wishes. They are gifts from God. You are controlled by fear.

As a Christian we are no longer controlled by the power of fear unless we allow fear to control us. Make the choice to not allow fear to control you but to control your fear.

Here are some verses:
2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Proverbs 29:25
The fear of man brings a snare; but those that put their trust in God shall be saved.
Proverbs 28:1
The wicked flee when no man follows; but the righteous are bold as a lion.

In short when we live in fear we are frozen and unable to go anywhere and complete what God has planned for us. When we live in confidence and God’s grace we are able to unite and do things we never thought we could.

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

I AM

This is the last poem/story from An Angel Remembers
Merry Christmas!!

I AM the One who is the Beginning
I AM the One spoken of from old.
I AM the One of promises told.
I AM the One angels foretold.
I AM the One of whom angels sang.
I AM the babe born in the Star light.
I AM the One wrapped in swaddling clothes.
I AM the One laid in the hay as cattle lowed.
I AM the One the shepherds sought.
I AM the One of whom towns people talked.
I AM the One the Magic came to see.
I AM the One worshiped on bended knee.
I AM the One who knew what history would unfold.
I AM the One that did what my Father told.
I AM the One that loved you before the beginning.
I AM the One who will love you to the end.
I AM the One that paid sins price.
I AM the One who choose that night.
I AM the One that wants you to choose Me.
I AM the One your friend would be.
I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIGHT!
I AM JESUS, I AM
Me and My Father . . .
I Am

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas - Mary's Mother

MARY’S MOTHER

Today I'm sharing another of the stories from my book, "An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas". Enjoy Mary's Mother sharing her view of what happened to her daughter.

When Mary came and told me she was pregnant I was upset. How could this be? She is such a dutiful daughter and Joseph seemed to be an honorable caring man. How could they do this to our families? They were going to be married soon and should have waited! Then Mary told me that Joseph was not the father!
Mary told me a tale about an angel of the Lord coming and telling her she was going to have a son! That this was going to be a very special child that would grow up to be a great man and He would do wondrous things! He was going to save our people. Could she truly think she was going to be the mother of the Messiah?! This is hard to believe!
I did not know how to handle her being pregnant let alone her ridiculous tale! I sent her off to see her cousin Elizabeth. I had heard some strange rumors about her being pregnant, but I don’t believe all the tall tales I hear! She could not be pregnant because she is way beyond the age to have children and her husband, Zachariah is also very old. They have never had children before so it could not be true. Any way Zachariah will get Mary’s story all figured out. He is a priest so he will get to the truth!
Mary spent three months with Elizabeth. When she came home she told me that Elizabeth and Zachariah had a son! They have named him John. Mary told me that Zachariah could not talk when she got there because an angel of the Lord, the same one that had come to her, had told him he would not be able to talk until John was born. Zachariah believed Mary’s story and instructed that I do all I could to help her until the baby was born! I was relieved to hear that Zachariah believed Mary! I was glad she had him to stand for her and protect her from the law. I had wanted to believe Mary but with so much at stake it was hard to. I know I would have helped Mary no matter what.
Mary got married to Joseph soon after she got back from Elizabeth’s. Joseph’s business was doing well and Mary was over the morning sickness. She was getting so big and round! You could see the baby kick. The baby seemed to be doing well. Before the baby was born a decree came from Caesar. Everyone had to go to the town of their fathers to register. That meant Mary had to go to Bethlehem with Joseph. I had to go to the place of my husband’s ancestors and would not be able to be with her when she had the baby! I may never get to see my grandchild. Joseph, kind man that he is, got Mary a donkey to ride on so the trip would not be so hard on her. The last I saw of Mary, Joseph and my future grandchild was them walking out of the city gate heading for Bethlehem. I know that Joseph will take good care of Mary and the baby but I still wish I could be there for Mary and the baby.
Mary sent word with a friend that was coming to my town. She had a boy just like the angel said! They have named him Jesus! Because all the inns were full they are staying in a stable for a time. Joseph is doing work for some local shopkeeper who sells some of the things he makes. They have made friends in Bethlehem and plan on staying there. They are looking for a house to live in.
The friend also said that strange and wonderful things are happening to Joseph, Mary and little Jesus! A star has been over the stable where they live since the night Jesus was born! Shepherds came in from the fields to find the baby Jesus and worship Him the day He was born! They had a wild story about angels telling them about a baby in a manger!
I wish I could be there to see all that is going on with my grandson! I want to be there for Mary and Joseph also. I love them all so much. May it be God’s will I see them someday soon!

Saving Mr. Banks - Father's Love and Love of Father

Saving Mr. Banks – Father’s Love and Love of Father
Beware of spoilers!!

In “Saving Mr. Banks” we learn about P. L. Travers and the reasons she did not wish to allow Walt Disney to have the rights to her story Mary Poppins. It is also the story of four fathers, P. L. Travers’ father, Walt Disney the father, Elias Disney (Walt’s dad) and Mr. Banks from the movie. What lessons can we learn from these fatherly examples?

The movie starts years before Mary Poppins was written. It starts in 1908 when P. L. Travers was a little girl in Australia. You hear her father saying the famous lines that Bert says when Mary Poppins shows up. It is quickly obvious that father loves “Ginty” as he calls her. He encourages her daydreams and fancy, but things are not as bright and beautiful as they seem. That day was moving day. The family carried all they had miles to the train station to move far out into the country to a much poorer situation.

The movie jumps to England in the 1960s. P. L. Travers is waiting for her car to take her to Los Angeles. Actually she canceled her car as she has chosen not to go make a deal with Disney. She does not want her beloved Mary Poppins destroyed or changed from her original intent. To her Mary Poppins (never just Mary) and the Banks’ are family. She loves them as if they were her own. Her solicitor shows up and reminds her that she needs to go make a deal with Disney because sales of the book have diminished and her money is running out. With little choice she chooses to go.

As the movie progresses you see Mrs. Travers’ memory going back to times with her father as a child. Many joyful but sad memories come out as she remembers her daddy coming home from work early to play with her and her sister just it find out he was drunk. As the movie progresses you see daddy is an alcoholic and has other health issues. At one point little Ginty goes to town to have “ice cream day” with her daddy. She walks into the bank to find him acting strange, yelling and jumping around. His boss comes in and fires him in front of her! Then the boss realizes that she is his young daughter and gives him one last chance to change. He tells him to change for his daughter if for nothing else. Ginty still loves her daddy no matter what and idolizes him. Mother is little better and Ginty stops her from walking into the river to drown herself. Mother is suffering depression from the stress of dealing with 3 young children and a physically ill, drunkard husband who can’t hold a job. Again, like father she is not evil she is just caught up in the stress of life.

As work on Mary Poppins continues Mrs. Travers is intent on not giving up the rights and she does not care if she is penniless because of it. She is defensive and seemingly downright unreasonable in her protectiveness of the characters, particularly Mr. Banks. Finally she breaks down crying about how they are making Mr. Banks mean/evil. She wonders why Disney and the staff don’t see father is just caught up in life. His intent is not to hurt his children, he is just busy and over worried.

At this point there is another flashback of memory and she remembers her father drinking more and more. He is giving a speech and because he is sick and drunk he falls off the stage after making a fool of himself. They never say want exactly is wrong with her father but I believe it was Tuberculosis, he is coughing up blood. Ginty tries to do the right thing but father will not listen and rejects her creative gift of a poem. He begs her to bring him liquor and she does. Before father dies her mother’s sister comes to help. She is quite like Mary Poppins without the “magic”. She wants things Spit Spot and done right. The aunt tries to help the entire family as they deal with the multiple issues caused by the illness and drunken behavior of father. Shortly after he dies. No matter what Ginty loved her father. She saw his love and the hurts that caused him to drink.

Walt Disney has a part in the movie as it is about how he obtained the rights to Mary Poppins. He heard his daughters laughing as Diane read to her younger sister Sharon one night as he passed their bedroom door. He stopped in to ask them what they were laughing about. They shared their joy of Mary Poppins with him and he promised to make it into a movie. It was a promise that took almost 20 years to keep but he was bound and determined to keep it! He did not care how long or what it took he was going to do it. For Walt it was not about the money he could make or taking over someone’s creative effort, it was all about keeping his promise to his daughters!

Walt also shared with Mrs. Travers that his father was a harsh man, not evil just demanding. Elias would work hard for the money to raise his family and he in return demanded they work hard themselves. He would get young Roy and Walt up early in the morning to deliver 1,000 newspapers. It did not matter what the weather the boys must deliver and make sure each customers wish for location of the paper was met. Snow above their heads, rain beating down it did not matter. Wet and cold they would deliver the papers morning and night with breaks for school after delivering the morning papers and dinner before delivering the evening papers. Walt could understand loving a father even if you knew you would get the buckle end of the belt for not living up to exacting standards. By sharing about his father Elias, Walt showed Mrs. Travers he understood her hurt.

Then there is Mr. Banks. He is a good man of business that does love his family. He wishes to provide for them and have them behave in ways he feels are socially proper. He is so tied up in his work and views of propriety he has lost touch of his family’s needs.

Jesus calls God His Father and explains how He loves us. Jesus called His Father Abba or the Hebrew term for the familiar Papa. Jesus called out to His Papa while on the cross dying. In the Old and New Testament God is called our Father. Over and over again there are references. He is better than any earthly father (Not that they are not important! A father is the first example of God’s love a child knows!) Here are just a few to think about when looking at God the Father.
God is father to the fatherless
Psalms 68:5 A father to the fatherless, and a judge of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.
God will provide as a father does
Matthew 7:7-11 Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for everyone that asks receives; and he that seeks will find: and to him that knocks it shall be opened. What man is there who, if his son asks him for a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to those that ask him?
God cares for you
Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father knowing: the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid! You are more value than many sparrows!

God unlike, earthly parents does not get over stressed with daily life and forget to care for you. He is not overly strict and use the buckle end of a belt to punish you for a mistake. God will always listen and take time just for YOU personally. Like Walt Disney He keeps His promises to you. Unlike Disney the promises are kept in His time and do not depend on convincing others to comply. Still, His promises may not be kept in “your” time, when you feel they should be done.

Learn to trust your Father God. He wants to give you all the good gifts He has in the proper time, when it is best for you to have them. He wants to bless you and let you know you are a treasure to Him. Trust that your blessings are there and will come at just the right time for you to make best use of them.

Father’s (mom’s too) learn from these lessons. Show your children God’s love, forgiveness and attention. Model God’s love for them so they can see God in you.

Faith & the Magic Kingdom

Faith & the Magic Kingdom
By Randy Crane

Mr. DAPs of DAPsMagic.com posted a link to an intriguing sounding book that the author was in the process of raising money to publish. I quickly donated and shared the link and now I have my own copy (digital ebook) of this amazing book.

Faith & the Magic Kingdom is a wonderful collection of short snippets that show Biblical lessons we can learn from time spent at Disneyland. This are truly inspiring lessons that make you think about how you look at Disneyland and the world as a whole. From entering the park(s) to each ride there is a lesson to be taken away.

I’ve not had an opportunity to read the entire book because there is so much meat in the book and it is intended to be read over time, one or two sections/devotionals a day. I highly recommend this book for all Christians, Disney fans or not. Those of us Christians that are Disney fans as well will be doubly blessed.

This book gives you wonderful ways to share your faith with those around you, non-Christian or not. You can find truths to help those find their relationship with Christ and truths to strengthen those whose faith is being shaken. You will be touched and reminded to live your life in ways that show your faith and commitment to your relationship with Jesus Christ.

This book inspired me to start this blog, my second Disney themed blog.

An Angel Remembers - Nahem's Lullaby

NAHEM’S LULLABY

I am sharing one of my Christmas stories from my book, "An Angel Remembers 25 voices of Christmas" with you. If you enjoy the story information on how to purchase my book is at the end of this post.

I was always told that I was “too little” to do anything important. I was too little to take messages to important people. My voice is too soft to be heard in the chorus. I’m not strong enough to fight like Michael. But I still got the best job of all!!
I kept begging to help out when Jesus came to the earth. I really wanted to take the messages Mary or Joseph, but they said no one would believe me. I asked to be in the chorus that sang to the shepherds. I was told my voice would not be heard. I hoped that I would be asked to help with the star that heralded Jesus’ birth. I was told my wings are too tiny and would not keep me up long enough. I was beginning to feel that I would not be able to help at all! Everyone else got to help but me. Everyone kept telling me to go sit on a cloud out of the way.
Then Gabriel heard me singing to myself. He said he had a very special job for me! He needed an angel with a very special kind of voice. A voice suited to singing to a small child, and able to calm a child down when upset. Would I sing for Jesus when He cried!? He asked if I would sing for Jesus!! It would be my pleasure and joy to sing for Jesus!! Would you like to hear one of the lullabies I sang for Him??

Hush - a – hush a – hush – a bye. Hush now Jesus don’t you cry.
Your Father watches from on High. Hush – a – hush – a - hush – a – bye.

Hush – a – hush – a – hush – a – bye. You need rest now. Close your eyes.
You’ll save the world your love is why. Hush- a – hush – a – hush – a – bye.

When Jesus laughed, it was as if all the sorrow of the world melted like snow on the first bright day of Spring. He knew the greatest joy was in doing His Father’s will. When He cried it was as if the deepest, darkest part of the Pit had been opened. All I could do to comfort Him was to sing a lullaby. Even as a little baby He knew His Father’s will for His life. He knew what was going to happen to Him. He knew that He would go through many horrible things before He could go back to His Father in Heaven. This was His sorrow and His Joy. He knew He was giving live and love to all mankind. I liked making Him happy when He cried.
It was my joy to sing for Him. It was not work. You know you can never be too small or too weak to do things for the Lord. All you need is a big heart and willingness to serve!

Yes!! There is a Santa Claus!!!

Yes!! There is a Santa Claus!!!

I'm not going to reference a particular Disney movie today. I'm just sharing what is on my heart at this season.

Christmas is a time of year when people are talking about believing. “Do you believe in Santa?” is an oft repeated phrase at this time. Kids are asked by other kids and questioning adults. Some kids ask so they can “spoil the fun” of a younger child. Adults sometimes are shocked to find a 9-10 year old that still believes.

Many adults think it is unwise for children to believe in Santa. Non-Christian and Christian adults often think that it leads to a pie in the sky unreal view of the world. “Better to know the truth early that the world will do you no favors.” Some Christian parents also believe it is wrong to teach a child to believe in Santa. “Santa is a symbol of greed and commercialism! Santa detracts from the true story of Christmas and the celebration of Christ’s birth.”

While I do believe children need to realize that good things come by hard work and you will never get everything you ask for or want, I still believe the belief that there is kindness and generosity in the world outweighs the negative impact if handled correctly. Santa is a symbol and life lesson of kindness and generosity.

The commercial persona of Santa can detract from reason we should celebrate Christmas, Christ’s birth – God’s gift of LOVE to us. I still believe the person of St. Nick (Santa Claus) is a powerful tool to show the strength of God’s love and how we can show God’s love to others.

Around 300 AD there was a young man by the name of Nicolaus. Nicolaus was the only child of a rich merchant. He lived in Myra, modern Turkey. When Nicolaus was a young man his parents died. He spent many hours at his local church. The priest of the church knew there was something special about Nicolaus and prayed. After a time the priest felt lead of God to ask Nicolaus to become a priest. Nicolaus studied and became a priest.

Years went by, Nicolaus knew he could not keep his money because priests swore a vow of poverty. Nicolaus decided he would use his money to help people he found in need. There was a family in the parish that had 3 young girls. The eldest girl was about to become of age to marry. Back then if a young lady did not have a dowry to give she did not have a good chance of getting married. If she did not marry she was left to be a prostitute, a beggar or a house maid. None of these lives were easy or one that is desired.

When the eldest girl of the family came of age she found a bag of gold coins in her room near her bed! Nicolaus, not wanting it to be known he gave the gift had tossed the bag of coins in through a window during the night. The father wondered who the benefactor was and never suspected their local priest!

The second daughter reached the age to get married shortly after the first. This time the father was watching to see if the unknown “savior” would come again to help this daughter as well. Nicolaus saw him waiting and quietly went around and climbed up on the roof top and dropped the bag of coins down the chimney where they landed in a pair of socks hanging next to the fire drying! The socks belonged to the second daughter! She was saved as well!

When the third daughter came of age the father was determined to find out who was blessing his family so he could thank them. He set traps and waited into the night. He was rewarded when he caught Nicolaus trying to leave his final gift. Nicolaus swore father to secrecy, not wanting praise but to bless this poor family. The father relented and agreed not telling a soul about where the gifts came from.

Years later Nicolaus became the Bishop of Myra. This fact is documented in the logs of the Council of Nicea (around 325 AD). Bishop Nicolaus of Myra was there defending the faith and arguing the deity of Christ! At one point other Bishops did not believe in the deity of Christ and for other personal reasons wished to deny it. Nicolaus went to physical blows to defend the faith and deity of Christ! He won!

Every year he was a priest, at Christmas time Nicolaus would open the doors to his church and his funds. He would provide gifts for the poor who came to the church. He did this in the name of Jesus Christ so the poor would know Christ loves them. When Nicolaus died the father of the girls remembered his kind gifts. He had truly never forgotten them. The father started leaving small gifts for others less fortunate then himself. He would leave them with a note saying they were from Saint Nicolaus.

Over the years the legend grew and spread. People in neighboring countries heard the story of Saint Nicolaus the gift giver, and in turn they left gifts in his name. As legend spread the name changed to the Dutch, Sinterklaas and when he came to the United States his name changed again to Santa Claus.

There is much more to Saint Nicolaus’ story but these are the key points. This counters both arguments about Santa Claus being encouraged and believed in. For those that say there is no kindness in the world and get tough young I say look at the kindness of a real man, Nicolaus. He cared for others and took care of the poor and those in need and inspired others to do the same.

For those that say he is not a good example for Christian children I say you are wrong! Nicolaus defended the faith, he protected those in need (the young girls) and took care of the poor. Saint Nicolaus is a good example for all of us to strive to follow. He shows us how to show God’s love to others by actions.

Here are some verses to think about:

Matthew 5:6
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Colossians 3:17
Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Galatians 6:9
Let us not grow weary of doing  good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
